BOARDING GAME

ABOUT THE GAME
Its main goal is to make kids grasp the value of nature to our life on the planet and clue them in on the Cyclades’ precious biodiversity, as well as on the notion of sustainable growth, through a series of fun challenges and riddles. The game is aiming at raising awareness on issues of environment protection and inspire parents and children to adopt a new attitude towards life. The game board represents the natural environment and the prospects of sustainable growth.
“Cycladoupolis” is aspiring to restore the notion of economy to its primary and fundamental meaning. Children are taught to put their own house in order, which is no different than tending to the needs of the planet they inhabit. They protect the environment to secure resources both for the present and the future.
The goal of the game is not to obtain ownership, but to protect nature and the sustainable activities in the Cyclades. After all, at the end of the day, what is the real trophy? A pocket full of money, but no fresh air to breathe, or a good quality of life?
PURPOSE OF THE GAME
The purpose of the game is the protection of the natural environment of the Cyclades.
The cycladoniums symbolize the value of the Cycladic environment. The Protection Cards represent the ways in which the player protects and preserves the Cycladic nature and culture. By purchasing them, the players become entitled to protect the environment in specific ways. They become the Heroes of the Cyclades.
The game board is inspired by the natural environment and the potential for sustainable development in the Cyclades.

NATURE & CULTURE IN THE CYCLADES
Two sides of the same coin
The Cycladic culture and its natural environment are eternally linked and vividly presented in the Museum of Cycladic Art’s board game “CYCLADOUPOLIS”. The sea, a perpetual invitation to travel and exploration. The land, providing raw materials like marble and obsidian that inspire human creations. The unique Aegean sunlight, illuminating the islands’ treasures and endowing human thought with crystal clarity. The landscape, inspiring a minimalist architectural style.
The mysteries surrounding the Cycladic works of art, created at the prime of the Cycladic civilization, are yet to be solved. The same is true of the enigmas regarding the Cycladic natural environment. For example, was the island vegetation always so low and sparse or is it the result of overgrazing?
One thing is certain. The Greek islands conceal a phenomenal biodiversity among their seemingly dry and barren landscapes. The land, the sea, the air are home to living organisms, animals and plants that are critical parts of the ecosystem. Humans have always been a part of this same ecosystem. Our species has always affected and been affected by nature. Yet, today, the scale has tipped toward human effects on nature – and dangerously so.
Indeed, it is our duty to protect not only archaeological spaces and discoveries but also to protect our natural environment in order to preserve life on this planet and our cultural heritage.
