COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

THE PROGRAM

During 2016-2021, the Museum of Cycladic Art offered a program dedicated to people over the age of 65. During this period, the Museum hosted more than 10,000 visitors through organized group visits.

From January to March 2020, the Museum also offered virtual reality tours to non-profit nursing homes in Attica. A virtual reality app invited the elderly to “live” the experience of a museum visit, to navigate through the Cycladic Art Collection and “travel” for a while to the Cyclades, bringing them in contact with the sea and the islands. Virtual reality tours were designed with the support of e-food. The purpose of the program was to focus on a social group that is in great need of entertainment and socialization.

Furthermore, the Museum of Cycladic Art is one of the first museums in Greece that have carried out specific staff training by gerontologists to adequately meet the needs of people over 65 years.

THE PROGRAM INCLUDED

Weekly visits from Open Protection Centers for the Elderly / Elderly Friendship Club

With free transportation and admission to the permanent collections, guided tours by archaeologists as well as reception by the Museum staff at the Cycladic Café.

Weekly educational workshops

For Open Protection Centers for the Elderly / Elderly Friendship Clubs members entitled “Playing in Ancient Greece and today” that focused on Ancient Greek games that stimulate visitors’ participants.

Weekly workshops in non-profit nursing homes

Focusing on enhancing the lives of people unable to visit the Museum. The workshops were implemented in collaboration with the seveneleven theater group which has an extensive experience and know-how in organizing recreational programs in nursing homes.
