Inspiration
The collage technique

In this activity, colorful papers are folded and turned into blocks, the design is completed with a collage of colorful shapes and your portrait takes on a third dimension.

You will be guided by the -almost- caricatured portraits by artist George Condo and the simplicity of the Cycladic figurine.

Materials

  • A thick piece of cardboard on which to design the outline of the head and neck
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Markers
  • Colorful sheets of paper and cardboard

Proccess

  1. Shape the head and neck, based on the Cycladic Figurine.
  2. Cut out geometric shapes, using papers of different colors and textures.
  3. Create blocks by folding the cut shapes.
  4. Paint some of the facial features and create others using the collage technique.
  5. Once you have created enough shapes and blocks, glue them onto the outline of the head.
  6. Ask an adult to help you cut the outline of the head, using a box cutter.
  7. Our mask is ready!
