OBJECTS 360°

DESCRIPTION

The scene represented on the main side of this particular column krater is known from the hymn of Alkaios (ex. 349) and is extremely popular in Attic pottery, while a painting with this very scene adorned, according to Pausanias (1.20.3), the newer temple of Dionysus Eleftherios, at the southern foothills of Athens near the theatre of Dionysus.

The scene of the komos, on the other side of the vase, is one of the usual subjects depicted on vases by the painter of Leningrad.
