Corinthian krater

OBJECT NARRATIVES

DESCRIPTION

This vase is a krater destined to mix wine with water, dating to 590–570 BC. Various types of kraters existed, among which the, particularly popular, column type of Corinthian origin. The Corinthian vase-painters decorated their vases with great care. The decoration often consisted of scenes from the world of the East.

The upper zone of the vessel is decorated with seven dancing revellers (komasts). The lower zone is decorated with felines and goats.
