On Saturday, May 18, the Museum, the Cycladic Shop and the Cycladic Café will be open until 18:00. The title of this year’s International Museum Day is “Museums for Education and Research”, a theme directly linked to the vision and goals of the Museum of Cycladic Art.

10:00-17:00 Screening of the film “Etel Adnan: Words in Exile” in cooperation with the Greek Film Archive
The film reconstructs through a series of visual fragments, multiple languages, peoples and their identities, a unique portrait of poet and painter, Etel Adnan. The film is based on Adnan’s correspondence with Dr. Fawwaz Traboulsi, professor of History and excerpts of her conversations with Vouvoula Skoura, recorded in Paris and Skopelos. Etel Adnan has lived and experienced the evils of the 20th century in Europe and the Middle East. Trapped between the two worlds, Adnan attempts to understand their differences and synthesizes them through her profound humanitarian vision. 10:00-17:00 Short films for children aged 6+ in cooperation with the Athens International Children’s Film Festival
Ranging from Autosaurus Rex and Buzz, a robot bee that constantly causes problems in the hive irritating the beekeeper, to the odd Rainboy who commits a huge mistake and injures the Sun, the most enjoyable heroes are here to accompany children on space and environmental journeys, promoting the concept of sustainability in a world filled with empathy and understanding. 10:00 – 16:00 “The Museum has a question for you…” Activity with visitors’ participation
The Museum has a question for you! We look forward to hearing your thoughts and create together the “museum’s world”! To celebrate the International Museum Day, the Museum of Cycladic Art invites visitors to an interactive debate where young and old will provide answers to museum-related questions drawn-up by our staff. Visitors will provide answers using their imagination and critical thinking, expressing their opinion about the current and future state of the “museum world”. At the Museum’s Cycladic Art permanent exhibition, Yiannis Papadatos, Associate Professor of Prehistoric Archaeology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, will “converse” with the exhibits, presenting them in an easy-to-understand, contemporary way. ΙμCHOR Choir through their songs performed twice, will enable visitors embark on a journey to the Aegean Sea and the traditions of the islands that remain unchanged to this day. Contributor: ΙμCHOR Choir Venue: Stathatos Mansion Foyer and Rotunda

13:30-14:30 & 14:30-15:30 Guided tour of the Cycladic Art permanent exhibition for visually impaired people & awareness raising
The haptic display case will be available to visually impaired people and their companions as well as to all museum visitors who wish to explore the Cycladic Art permanent collection using multiple senses and get an in-depth understanding of disabilities and witness obstacles experienced by people with disabilities both in their daily lives and in various cultural activities. At the Museum’s Ancient Greek Art permanent exhibition, Kleopatra Kathariou, Assistant Professor of Classical Archaeology at the University of Ioannina, will illuminate through her penetrating vision the Museum’s classical era vases. 16:00-16:30 On ancient Cypriot culture
At the Museum’s Cypriot Art permanent exhibition – Thanos N. Zintilis Collection, George Bourogiannis, Research Associate of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, will explore the island’s culture and art that helped merge the Aegean, Egypt and the Near East. 16:00-16:30 “Equality” Choreography with the participation of children on free expression and justice in education
A performance by a group of children of the “Network for Children’s Rights”. Performance is done using the neutral mask in various parts of the body, words and music. Contributors: Korina Kotsiris and Synthesis 748 Dance Co. Venue: Stathatos Mansion Foyer and rotunda
