Museum kit: Clothing in Ancient Greece

The aim of the museum kit is to provide information about the clothing of Ancient Greeks, the materials used, the accessories, such as jewellery and headgear, as well as the shoes that complemented their outfit.

Copies of artifacts, printed material, handicrafts and a range of clothing (chiton, peplos, himation, chlamys, exomis) as well as essential accessories, such as belts and hair tapes, enable children’s learning, giving them the chance to dress themselves.

Ancient Greek fashion was determined by the weaving loom which would only manufacture a rectangular-shaped cloth. This cloth was usually draped around their body using pins (resembling to a lapel pin), buckles (a type of pin), buttons and belts. In this way, the piece of cloth could render different types of clothing. Information about the various types of clothing derives either from ancient literature or archaeology, i.e., statues and the representations on the vases.
