Dionisis Kavallieratos
CYCLADIC CAFE ART PROJECT
MARCH - APRIL 2022
Dionisis Kavallieratos
Dionisis Kavallieratos was born in Athens in 1979; he lives and works in Berlin. He graduated from the School of Fine Arts (2002) and completed the Radar Project (residency) in Venice and Krakow (2003-2004).
Kavallieratos’ artistic practice includes small and large-scale sculptures in wood, clay or mixed media and drawings in pencil and charcoal. His work reveals a dazzling inner world – a personal universe through a humorous and ironic style.
Both works that were presented as part of the Cycladic Café Art Project belong to a series of large-scale drawings on paper which approach the theme of Chorus (Dance) in ancient Greek theatre from a different perspective. As Kavallieratos has revealed about dance as the theme of his work, traditional circular dance has been the foundation used by the artist as a starting point to explore new ideas. Referencing antiquity as well as popular tradition, architecture, history and nature, Kavallieratos designs anthropomorphic characters, inviting us to meditate on contemporary issues, employing humor, irony and self-sarcasm.

Aiming to embrace both the greek and the international contemporary art scene, the Museum presents works by internationally acclaimed and emerging artists, which relate to current Museum exhibitions and activities. The Cycladic Café Art Project stimulates an intimate dialogue bringing art closer to everyday life.
