Curated walk “Athens during the Roman Ages”

CYCLADIC FRIENDS

APRIL 9, 2023

Almost three hundred years after the Golden Age of Pericles, Athens is occupied by the Romans. However, according to the poet Horatio, “conquered Greece conquered the cruel conqueror and introduced the arts”. Roman emperors arrive in the city, they allocate fabulous sums for the repair of damaged monuments, the construction of public works, as well as brilliant new buildings.

During this curated walk, we wandered through the center of the city, looking for monuments from the Roman era, events that marked its inhabitants, personalities that highlighted and praised it in an era of intense cultural and spiritual activity.

The guided tour was conducted by the historian Ioanna Zacharopoulou.
