Cycladic figurine

OBJECT NARRATIVES

DESCRIPTION

It is one of the most elegant cycladic figurines found to date. It belongs to the Dokathismata variety of the “canonical type”, taking its name from the homonymous Early Cycladic cemetery on the island of Amorgos, and it dates between 2700 and 2300 BC. Items of this variety are characterized by their slenderness, flat surfaces and curving profiles in the side view.

The figurines of the Early Cycladic sculpture, with the abstraction and the simplification that characterizes them, inspired and impressed many important Modernist artists of the 20th century.
