DESCRIPTION
The place where the scene depicted on the vase takes place is the palaistra. This is where the young people practised in various sports: wrestling, pankration and boxing. The paedotribes (trainers) were responsible for the physical and athletic training of the young people.
The Painter of the Paris Gigantomachy to whom the vase is attributed, owes his name to the myth of the battle between the Gods and the Giants depicted on one of his famous vases. He was a pupil of the Brygos painter and decorated mainly cups, as well as amphorae, lekythoi and oinochoai.
