THE INITIATIVE
Cycladic Identity is an initiative by the Museum of Cycladic Art aiming to protect the cultural and natural heritage of the Cyclades, as well as to preserve, restore, and reveal their unique identity. With focus areas Culture, Biodiversity, and Intangible Cultural Heritage, the initiative acts as a platform for attracting and allocating resources to programs implemented by organizations operating on the islands.
The evaluation of funding proposals is conducted by the Scientific Committee of Cycladic Identity, which is composed by Dr. Dimitris Athanasoulis, Director of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades, Dr. Michael Boyd, Senior Research Affiliate at the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center, The Cyprus Institute, Dimitris Karavellas, General Director of WWF Greece, and Dr. Angeliki Kosmopoulou, Archaeologist and Story Strategist. The Advisory Board of the initiative, which provides significant funding and contributes to strategic planning since the initiative’s inception, also participates in the final selection of proposals.
Cycladic Identity has completed its second year of operation and moves into its third phase, with the funding of ten new programs across eight Cycladic islands—Andros, Donoussa, Koufonisi, Mykonos, Santorini, Serifos, Syros, and Tinos—including two programs with inter-cycladic nature.
