Private Guided Tour of the Cypriot Collection
CYCLADIC FRIENDS
FEBRUARY 25, 2026
The exhibition on the 3rd floor of the Museum of Cycladic Art presents the artistic production of ancient Cyprus, a culture shaped through continuous cultural interactions. The objects in the collection reveal an art characterized by a wide range of forms, materials, and techniques, reflecting the island’s complex identity over time.
The Cypriot Collection of Thanos N. Zintilis includes a large variety of vessels dating from deep prehistory to later periods, stone and clay figurines, sculptures, inscriptions, metal objects, coins, and finely crafted jewelry. These works illuminate aspects of daily life, religious beliefs, and social practices as they developed on the island of Cyprus, while also highlighting technical skill and the importance of decoration, symbolism, and form.
Particular emphasis is placed on the representation of the human figure, which evolves strikingly from schematic prehistoric figurines to the more complex forms of historical times. Through these works, a distinct artistic identity emerges, expressing the complex and multilayered character of Cypriot culture.
