Cycladic Kids Festival 2026

In the exhibition space of the Arts Centre, an animated video brings to life the artworks of the children awarded in the 13th International Kids’ Art Contest, set within a virtual Museum of Cycladic Art and surrounded by exhibits from the Cycladic Collection.
At the same time, visitors can digitally explore all the Contest entries and discover the children’s creations through digital screens (tablets).

This year, for the first time, kids and teenagers from around the world, who took part in the Art Contest, had the opportunity to send a short audio message in response to the question: “What would you like the Museum to be?”

The Museum of Cycladic Art’s Museum Kits — suitcases filled with stories and objects from the Collection that have been travelling throughout Greece and abroad for many years — are on display and inviting visitors to explore them. Each suitcase is dedicated to a different theme and contains replicas of objects from the Collection, which visitors can touch with care.

Next to the Museum Kits, a ballot box gives both children and adults the opportunity to share their ideas! The Museum invites them to imagine new ways in which it could travel, reach new audiences and connect with communities in the years to come.

How are images of museums captured in a book?
How are museum labels, words, captions and numbers represented in a book?
How are the stories of people in the world of art told through a book?

What might a reading journey look like among books written about art and museums? Could it include different stops highlighting the values of art, such as Acceptance, Respect, Inclusion, Identity, Equality, Culture, Uniqueness and Kindness?

Young and adult readers will leaf through stories and pause at that particular exhibit or label that captures their interest. They will then be invited to use a giant canvas to visually interpret, in their own unique way, the object or point that made the greatest impression on them.

By the end of the two-day event, a huge, “speaking wall” of a museum will have been created, featuring exhibits inspired by everyone who allowed themselves to be immersed in the pages of the books.
At the same time, on a second wall, readers will be invited to collaboratively create artworks within frames. The title of this parallel activity will be:

“Add Something Small or Something Big… a Line, a Shape”
In a smaller space, inspired by tactile books, participants will also create tactile constructions using cut-outs and recessed shapes.

Through experiential talks and interactive learning stations, children and adults alike will have the opportunity to explore, in a simple, human and meaningful way, different aspects of the everyday experiences of people with physical and sensory disabilities.

Guided by dialogue, participation and hands-on learning, visitors will discover practical approaches that foster an inclusive mindset while becoming familiar with fundamental principles of communication, interaction and everyday support.

A large mass of natural clay is spread out on the floor, and—using many other sensory materials—a large spiral is built collaboratively—the symbol of perpetual motion and life. The floor is transformed into a raised living path. We explore its earthy texture, leave our handprints, and add personal symbols. At the same time, we revive the “children’s games” of antiquity, shaping whatever we desire out of clay and taking our creations home as keepsakes.

Participants put on their chef’s hats and aprons and embark on a journey of discovery through the aromas, textures and flavors of nature.

Through hands-on activities and games, they identify herbs and spices using only their sense of smell, touch different grains, seeds and nuts, and discover their distinctive textures and nutritional value. At the same time, they learn how natural ingredients are transformed into everyday recipes inspired by the Mediterranean diet. As part of the creative activity, they work together to prepare their own healthy energy bites using honey, oats, dried fruit and nuts. They choose the aromas and ingredients they prefer, creating their own unique combination.
Take-home treat: The handmade energy bites they prepare and package themselves.

Why doesn’t he run away? A coming-of-age story about overcoming our fears and learning to believe in ourselves. The second story takes place in a faraway kingdom. A king discovers that our most terrifying enemy can become our best friend, if we take the time to get to know them. A story about some of life’s greatest values, such as love, hatred, humility, vanity, self-esteem and courage.Two stories filled with fun, humor, interaction and imagination, brought together in one performance for children of all ages!

Using water, music and imagination as their main tools, each participant creates their own bubble representations.

French Fries and Imagination Army are two young bands that were formed through the Band Workshop for Kids & Teens. An interactive dance-theatre performance for children, inspired by Mark Haddon’s novel “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time”. The performance invites children and adults on a journey into the world of diversity, acceptance, understanding, respect and self-love.

Two parallel stories about things that are not as they seem, and things that do not seem as they truly are. Two children, ordinary like all children and unique like every child. Two children who see the world through their own distinctive lens and invite us to move alongside them, following two lines and experiencing what they feel, what they think and everything they wish to express but perhaps they cannot.

Because at the end of the day, who defines what is “normal”? Where does racism begin and what feeds it? How can we coexist? What is the potential of a group made up of individuals with different qualities, talents and skills? How can we transform what is perceived as a disadvantage into a… superpower? And where do these Parallel Yellow Lines lead?

Klikable – The Museum with My Eyes Closed! is an experiential and inclusive photography workshop for families. Using photography as a tool for play, discovery and inclusion, parents and children explore the museum and Parko Eleftherias through sound, touch, smell, movement and imagination. Through blindfold photography, they create images without relying on sight and discover new ways of observing and capturing the world around them.

You will need a mobile phone with a camera. Please note that, during the activity, you will be asked to cover your eyes with a sleep mask.

Adapted stories by the great teacher and writer Gianni Rodari invite children to see the world from a different perspective. More relevant than ever, Rodari’s tales explore issues such as addiction to television, the internet and tablets, as well as racism and equality, the power of dance and music, and the importance of teamwork in solving problems.

Using absurdist humour and playfully challenging stereotypes, Topi Theatre Group invites children and adults alike to break free from conventions and prejudices and look beyond them. A common thread running through Rodari’s stories is the timelessness of their themes, the restless spirit of their heroes, their moral reflection and their courageous spirit of protest.

“Boulouki” – Itinerant Workshop on Traditional Building Techniques invites children aged 8–15 to a unique workshop dedicated to the traditional building practices of the Cyclades.
Through play and experimentation, children will discover the materials traditionally used on the islands: stone, clay-based mortars and other natural elements. Taking the Cycladic house as our starting point, we will experiment with materials, shape our ideas and create small structures inspired by our imagination.

With a Cycladic figurine as our hero and heroine, we learn about its history and its place in the Museum… until it decides to step outside! Will it change its form? Who will it meet? What will they say? How will it move? How will it feel?

Inspired by distant corners of the world and history, the performance brings to light characters who are at the same time familiar and strange, finding themselves entangled in the most unexpected situations. Some collect precious objects hidden away in the bustling bazaars of the East; others gather spells from Caribbean sorcerers; while others live through stories of everyday madness that awaken their ancient ancestors, along with their stories, customs and songs.

Do sculptures move? Do they tell stories? If they were to dance, what would their dance look like? “The Playing Sculpture” is a movement workshop that explores the relationship between bodies, space and the imagination. Using inclusive dance as our vehicle, we will create our own collective sculptures and play with the way we see – how we observe, what we know about what we observe, and how we let our imagination add its own elements to what we see.
