Daytrip at Ancient Epidaurus and performance “Antigone”
CYCLADIC FRIENDS
AUGUST, 2026
Antigone never stayed confined to her own century. From Hegel to Adriana Cavarero, from the resistance of 1944 to the dancers of Pina Bausch, her figure returns in every age that has needed to think afresh about what it means to obey and what it means to resist. At the heart of the tragedy lies a gesture: a handful of dust over a forbidden body. There is a reason the director chose the body as his language.
From Athens to the ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, the Cycladic Friends traveled with the voice of Antigone as their companion, a voice that speaks through word and through body alike. They saw how a heroine written twenty-five centuries ago still poses the most contemporary of questions, the question of what it means to act when law and justice cease to move together, and how that question finds its language today in movement.
