Cycladic Walks | A walk in Vrisaki

CYCLADIC FRIENDS

NOVEMBER 23, 2024

The year 1931 marked a milestone for the city of Athens and for archaeological research: excavations began that would reveal the Ancient Agora, the center of social life in the ancient city. At the same time, however, an entire neighborhood of 400 homes and 5,000 inhabitants beneath the Acropolis—Vrysaki—vanished from the map.
During the walk through Plaka, the Cycladic Friends traced the remains of this lost and, for many, forgotten neighborhood, bringing it back to life through photographs, testimonies, and their footsteps along the streets of Vlassarou, Agioi Apostoloi, and Agios Filippos.

The tour was conducted by historian and guide Ioanna Zacharopoulou.
