Cycladic Walks | “Athens Through The Eyes of Odysseas Elytis”
CYCLADIC FRIENDS
MAY 25, 2025
Following in the footsteps of Odysseas Elytis, Cycladic Friends took part in a walking tour through the heart of Athens—the city that served as a refuge, a source of inspiration, and a constant point of reference for the poet. During the walk, they visited selected sites of historical and cultural significance—cafés, bookstores, streets, and neighborhoods—that were gathering places for Elytis and his generation. At the same time, through readings of excerpts from his work, they sought to approach the way he perceived the city, as well as his relationship with light, space, and language.
“Athens is a city where I lived most of my life, yet never felt that I belonged to it. And yet, I carry it within me as something of my own.”
—Odysseas Elytis
The guided walk was led by Anna Pentalakou, art historian and cultural producer, while the tour of the Elytis House Museum was conducted by Ioulita Iliopoulou, Director of the Museum.
