SEPTEMBER 13, 2025
On the rocky hill of the Acropolis, overlooking the heart of modern Athens, stood the most important and magnificent sanctuary of the ancient city, primarily dedicated to its patron goddess, Athena. This sacred site is connected with the most significant myths of ancient Athens, its major religious festivals, the city’s earliest cults, as well as some of the defining events in its history.
The monuments of the Acropolis, harmoniously integrated with the natural landscape, are unique masterpieces of ancient architecture. They demonstrate pioneering combinations of styles and principles of classical art and influenced intellectual and artistic creation for many centuries. The 5th-century BCE Acropolis perfectly conveys the grandeur, power, and wealth of Athens during its greatest period of prosperity—the “Golden Age” of Pericles.
The tour was conducted by historian and guide Ioanna Zacharopoulou.
