Pyxis with horses
OBJECT NARRATIVES
DESCRIPTION
This luxurious pyxis, which is dated in the late 8th c. BC, seems to have been intended exclusively for male burials.
Similar vases, intended for storing valuable objects, have only been found in richly furnished graves of the period, allowing us to assume that horses may have been the symbols of the privileged social class called the Knights. Not every citizen could own and maintain a horse as it was very expensive.
