Wheat – Paper Weight

€45.00

Object inspired by the Alpha Bank Numismatic Collection

wheat : the long-standing symbol of fertility, bounty and resurrection.

Wheat is often related to female deities of agriculture.

In ancient Greek culture, it usually decorates silver coins, depicting the cultivation of an area. The golden ears of corn are the offspring of the marriage of the luminous sun with the virgin earth.

In the Eleusinian Mysteries, the ear was the central symbol and they offered it to Gods asking for abundance and fertility.
