Reproduction of Silver Tetradrachm of Alexander the Great.
The silver tetradrachm of Alexander the Great, or the international currency of the Hellenistic and early Roman world, represented on the obverse Heracles wearing a lion-skin head-dress as the mythical founder of the Macedonian dynasty and on the reverse Enthroned Zeus, father of all gods, as the protector of the kingdom. Most Alexandrian tetradrachms were coined after the king’s death as a high-valued currency and to honor of their original creator. The so-called “dollar” of that historic period, circulated in 3 continents, establishing Alexander the Great’s coinage as the richest royal coinage of antiquity.
