Red Pomegranate with Violin-Shaped Figurine

Pomegranate has been particularly popular among many Mediterranean inhabitants from antiquity to the present day. It is considered a symbol of good fortune, prosperity, abundance, fertility and Eros. The pomegranate is decorated with a Cycladic violin-shaped figurine. The marble violin-shaped figurines, the earliest examples of Cycladic micro-sculpture owe their name to their resemblance to the musical instrument and schematically render a female body.
