The German Princess Amalia- Maria (1818-1875) married King Othon in 1836 and the couple came to Greece. She was involved with philanthropic works and created the palace garden that is today known as the National Garden. The formal court dress of Queen Amalia was a lavish Greek traditional costume, which is known as the ‘Amalia Costume’.
