Since prehistoric times, people have recognized the nutritional value of honey.
Moreover, the presence of bees in arts is particularly intense. Since antiquity, this unique and popular symbol has been depicted on vases, gold tiles and coins of the Aegean islands. It was also a favorite topic in the jewellery craftsmanship of the ancient peoples of the Eastern Mediterranean where bee is glorified as the “Great Mother-Goddess” and is associated with the worship of Aphrodite, earth deities and fertility.
