Pendant inspired by the Apple of Discord

€40.00

According to ancient Greek mythology, during the Thetis and Peleus wedding, all gods were invited except Eris, the goddess of strife and discord. Legend has it that Eris, after realizing that she was not invited to the wedding, became furious and decided to take revenge and tossed an apple which sparked a vanity-fueled dispute between Athena, Hera and Aphrodite. The apple bore the inscription “to the fairest one”, that is, the most beautiful. The goddesses claimed the apple and asked the other gods to judge which of the three was the most beautiful. Gods assigned the choice to Paris, a handsome mortal from Troy. First, Hera promised to make him King of Asia. Then, Athena promised him victory in the war. Finally, Aphrodite promised him the most beautiful woman on Earth, Helen of Troy. Paris did not hesitate at all and offered the apple as a prize to Aphrodite, which is known in people’s memory as “the apple of discord”.
