Mosaic with Swallows

A decorative object inspired by a prehistoric fresco from Thera (Santorini). Cycladic art particularly loves depictions of swallows, praising Spring, Nature and its rebirth in the rocky landscapes of the islands of the archipelago.

It is created by combining mosaics, small pieces of marble, enamel and glass. Mosaics have their roots in antiquity and are widespread in many cultures. The art of mosaic in the Cyclades is mainly related to the cultural flourishing of the islands during the Hellenistic period. Mosaics highlight the high aesthetics, technical perfection and contacts of the Cyclades with the wider Mediterranean world.
