It describes ancient Greek daily life through the tale of the two children Leon and Melite living in fifth-century BC Athens. Leon’s narration animates the everyday activities of women and men, the children’s playthings and education, various sports, and martial training.

The book is illustrated with drawings and photographs of objects displayed in the Museum and most of them dating to the Classical and Hellenistic periods.
