The marble free standing sculptures and reliefs of Ancient Greece strike us with their effortless realism and grace. Handshake has always been a major and peaceful social act. This theme emphasized kinship ties. A handshake between two warriors corresponded to disarmament, therefore it was a peaceful gesture. It symbolized the notions of friendship, trust and hospitality.
Today, a handshake, the mutual holding and shaking of the palm of the right hand between two people, acts as a greeting or as confirmation of an agreement.
