Alabaster with Two Roosters
€85.00
Alabastra were used either by athletes in the gymnasia (palaestrae) to anoint their bodies with aromatic oils during training and games or by women to store valuable cosmetic oils and perfumes. This alabastron with its relatively tall body, narrow mouth and wide rim is one of the most characteristic shapes of Corinthian pottery. It is decorated with two facing cocks in a heraldic scene separated by an inverted lotus flower.
