Alexander Calder: Chess Knightmares

A collector’s edition that explores the passion of sculptor and artist Alexander Calder for chess and his connection to artistic movements and forms of the 20th century.
It features approximately 46 previously unpublished chess-themed drawings created by Calder in 1944.
The second part includes essays by Jed Perl and Alexander S. C. Rower, along with rare archival material shedding light on his creative journey.
The volume is enriched with archival photographs, original documents, and detailed documentation of Calder’s sculptural chess sets, as well as insights into his close relationship with Marcel Duchamp, who was also a devoted chess enthusiast.
