Venus & Adonis

Combining comic, tragic, and erotic elements, Venus & Adonis (1593) is a poem by William Shakespeare inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses. In this edition, Hafid Bouazza’s translation is brought together with illustrations by Marlene Dumas.
The poem tells the story of the goddess Venus and her desire for the hunter Adonis — a tale of intensity and loss, filled with contrasts: light and darkness, life and death, pleasure and pain.
This edition features Dumas’s complete series of 32 works on paper, carefully interwoven throughout Shakespeare’s text.
