The scene is dominated by the figure of Dionysus, the god of wine, entertainment and theatre, holding a kantharos, the characteristic Dionysian wine cup. He is flanked by two satyrs, two of his followers in dancing figures.<\/p>\n<p>The frequent depiction of Dionysian scenes in Attic vases testifies to the importance of the cult of Dionysus in Attica. Dionysian worship during the Archaic period was widespread throughout Greece, as the god was closely associated with rural life and the rebirth of nature.<\/p>\n<p>The other side of the amphora
