\n 2020 was a year of unprecedented circumstances across the globe. As a result, the scheduled exhibition TAKIS | Sculptor of Magnetism, Light and Sound <\/i>, a co-production of the Museum of Cycladic Art with Tate Modern and MACBA Museu d\u2019Art Contemporani de Barcelona, had unfortunately to be cancelled in its last stop in Athens. However, the Museum presented for a three-month period a dynamic website which hosted material from the exhibition catalogue.\n <\/div>\n \n \n<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n

Three thematic essays about the artist\u2019s work and practice, as well as Takis\u2019s (1925-2019) conversation with the author and critic Ma\u00eften Bouisset, were made accessible for free in Greek and English aspiring to guide online visitors through the central themes of his oeuvre: magnetism and metal, light and darkness, sound and silence. In the 70 years of his creative journey in Athens, Paris, London, and New York, Takis produced some of the most iconic and radical works of twentieth-century art, acting as a catalyst for the avant-garde of post-war Europe. The material included in the microsite seeked to showcase Takis\u2019s influence on contemporary art from as early as the 1960s, making his work available not only to experts but the wider audience as well.<\/p>\n

The texts have been written by Guy Brett, one of the most important British curators and art writers, who co-curated the exhibition with Michael Wellen, Curator of International Art at London\u2019s Tate Modern, and Melissa Warak, Assistant Professor of Art History at the University of Texas at El Paso. Additionally, a wealth of photographic material gave the public the opportunity to digitally browse the works of the exhibition, as well as historical photographs covering the evolution of the artist\u2019s career \u2013 material for which the Museum of Cycladic Art was granted exceptional permission to make freely available in light of the extraordinary current circumstances and despite any restrictions that would normally apply.<\/p>\n\n \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n
