\n On Saturday, July 12, the Museum of Cycladic Art organized a special daytrip event entitled \u201cThe Odyssey as a Forerunner of Ancient Drama\u201d, during which Cycladic Friends explored the distinctive Homeric epic and subsequently traveled to the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus to attend the performance \u201c\u03b6 – \u03b7 – \u03b8, The Stranger\u201d, directed by Michail Marmarinos.\n <\/div>\n \n \n<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n

In the Odyssey, the journey is not only physical; it is also an inner path toward self-knowledge, where the hero, in order to reach Ithaca, must first come to know himself. This narrative act\u2014deeply human, almost theatrical\u2014is the path the Cycladic Friends also followed, in an experience unfolding across three stages, where speech, thought, and action meet the stage.
\nThe number three is not accidental in the hero\u2019s homecoming: the poet devotes three rhapsodies to the island of the Phaeacians; the Great Apologoi that follow are presented in three triads; and in their introduction, the hero solemnly reveals his name, lineage, and homeland.
\nFrom the Museum of Cycladic Art to the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus, the Cycladic Friends embarked on a journey accompanied by the poetry of Homer. The Odyssey\u2014human and more relevant than ever\u2014becomes an occasion to reflect on the art of memory, transformation, and storytelling. In the land of the Phaeacians, Odysseus \u201cperforms\u201d the role of himself\u2014and we, in turn, will witness this primordial theatre.
\nA journey that promised not answers, but encounters: with language, with the hero, and with ourselves.<\/p>\n

The lecture on the Homeric epic was delivered by Metaxia Routsi, Assistant Curator of Antiquities, Museum of Cycladic Art.<\/p>\n\n \n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n
