The\u00a0Acropolis\u00a0of the 5th c. e.g. reminds\u00a0Athenians\u00a0today of the greatness, power, and wealth of\u00a0Athens\u00a0in the time of its greatest prosperity, the “golden age” of Pericles.\n <\/div>\n \n \n<\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n

On the rocky hill of the\u00a0Acropolis, which dominates the center of modern\u00a0Athens, was the most important and majestic sanctuary of the ancient city, dedicated, mainly, to its patron goddess, Athena. Related to this sacred place are the most important myths of ancient\u00a0Athens, the great religious festivals, the oldest cults of the city and some of the events that are decisive for its history.<\/p>\n

With millions of visitors each year, the Acropolis monuments are a worldwide reference point for art, architecture, intellectual creation, political ideology.<\/p>\n
