Owl is the symbol of wisdom and prudence. According to the Greek mythology, Athena, the goddess of wisdom and learning, was impressed by her big eyes and serious appearance. Since then, the owl is her sacred bird and emblem. They are presented together in many ancient depictions. Owl also appears in the tetradrachm, the ancient Athenian coin of 5th century BC, as a symbol of intelligence and wealth.
