The book Leon and Melite: Daily life in ancient Athens was written to accompany the exhibition Scenes from Daily Life in Antiquity at the Museum of Cycladic Art. It describes ancient Greek daily life through the tale of the two children Leon and Melite living in fifth-century BC Athens. Leon's narration animates the everyday activities of women and men, the children's playthings and education, various sports, and martial training.&nbsp; The book is illustrated with drawings and photographs of objects displayed in&nbsp;the Museum and most of them dating to the Classical and Hellenistic periods.&nbsp;

Lysis and Timarete are two children who lived and grew up in ancient Athens. They went to school, exercised in the gymnasium and read their books, and of course played. Games held a very special place in their daily life. Their toys and the games they played with their friends, were very similar to the ones you play and enjoy today. They just had different names.
