The rhyming erotic novel of Vitsentzos Cornaros was for centuries the most popular reading of Hellenism.

And although criticized as paltry folk creation ( "abortion" characterizes
the Korais and "novel about the maids' the Mistriotis), affected more than any other text on modern Greek poetry by Dionisios Solomos to Giorgos Seferis. Today it is considered as one of the masterpieces of the Renaissance throughout Europe. The Vitsentzos Cornaros died in 1613 at the age of sixty years and was buried in the monastery of St. Francis.
