First Cemetery of Athens

At the First Cemetery of Athens there are more than 12.000 tombs and 700 monumental gravestones that spread to an area of 225 acres. Renowned sculptures, architects, painters and engineers have made their mark in history, leaving traces of their work in some of the most important works of art of the last two centuries. MCA Friends had the chance to take a trip in time and wander through the history and the art of the last two centuries: from early Romanticism to the strict structures of Modernism, we discovered interesting stories of the last residence to some of the most well-known Greeks.

The guided tour was conducted by Mrs. Maria Daniil, architect and writer of the guidebook "First Cemetery of Athens, A guide of its monuments and history".
