Ioulia Lourentzatou was born in Piraeus. She studied Archeology and Art History at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Crete (Rethymnon) and continued her postgraduate studies in Classical Archeology at the University of Edinburgh, England. She is a PhD candidate in the Department of History and Archeology at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Crete. She has participated in scientific conferences, published articles and edited accompanying catalogues of temporary exhibitions.

For many years she has participated in excavations of ancient Eleuherna at Rethymnon(Crete) (West Sector III) (under the direction of N. Chr. Stampolidis, Professor of Classical Archaeology), Gavdos and Despotiko (Paros). Since 2011 she is member of the scientific team in the systematic excavation at Agios Nikolaos Palon in Vouliagmeni, Attica (Ephorate of Antiquities of Piraeus and the Islands). In 2008-2010 she worked as a field archaeologist at the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sports. 

Since 2011, she works at the Museum of Cycladic Art. She has organized the archaeological exhibitions: Cycladic Society 5000 ago (2016-2017), Cy Twombly and Greek Antiquity (2017), An unexpected visitor. The François Vase (2017), Crete. Emerging cities: Aptera – Eleutherna – Knossos (2018-2019) (with I. Fappas, PhD).
