This is a highly colourful artistic installation, in which the muse of the artist Konstantin Kakanias, the mysterious Mrs. Tependri, plays the leading role. Mrs. Tependri, known to the Greek public as heroine of the Greek War of Independence, guest star at the Olympic Games in Athens, important collector of modern artworks or occupant of the royal suite of the King George Hotel, is coming to the Museum of Cycladic Art.
The installation includes suspended sculptures and paintings (mobiles reminiscent of Karangiozis figures, Alexander Calder, as well as paintings by David Smith). In effect, the installation is a painting fragmented into many pieces, each one representing aspects of time, the past and the present – all hovering, as we ourselves are in life. All the works have been created specially for the Museum of Cycladic Art and are presented for the first time.
The installation is placed in the atrium of the museum, which also houses the café-restaurant
With 20 personal and 25 group exhibitions in Greece and abroad to his credit, Konstantin Kakanias opens a window on the imagination, giving us the opportunity to escape from the daily routine. For Kakanias, laughter, the amusing side of life, and making fun of himself feed his inspiration and are precisely those qualities that win over the public.
The installation is organized in collaboration with Kalfayan Galleries.
