Spiral hair ring

Description

Spiral ornament with tapering ends, which was most probably used as a hair-coli. The art of jewellery-making developed in Cyprus by the early years of the Bronze Age, but enjoyed a notable heyday in the Late Cypriot period, when there was a remarkable increase in supplies of raw materials (gold, silver) from Egypt, Syria and Asia Minor. After the upheavals at the end of the Bronze Age, gold-working developed again in the Geometric period, when the networks of trading contacts with traditional centres of gold production and processing in the East were restored.
