Gold necklace with precious stones

  • Description Necklace consisting of seven square elements of pierced lace-like openwork gold showing arabesques, six of which contain four sapphires in oval settings and small unifying bars at their lower ends. The seventh, containing a large rectangular emerald in a platform base forms the central element of the necklace. Between the square elements are fifteen 'figure-eight' elements of two oval settings with garnets, sapphires and emeralds; in between is placed a pearl threaded on gold wire set in a smaller round element. While each element has six small thread holes at each's side, many elements also show one or more letters of the Greek alphabet.
